چکیده

In schema integration, schematic discrepancies occur when data in one database correspond to metadata in another. We define this kind of semantic heterogeneity in general using the paradigm of context that is the meta information relating to the source, classification, property etc of entities, relationships or attribute values in entity-relationship (ER) schemas. We present algorithms to resolve schematic discrepancies by transforming metadata into entities, keeping the information and constraints of original schemas. Although focusing on the resolution of schematic discrepancies, our technique works seamlessly with existing techniques resolving other semantic heterogeneities in schema integration.

An ontology based approach to the integration of entity-relationship schemas

In schema integration, schematic discrepancies occur when data in one database correspond to metadata in another. We explicitly declare the context that is the meta information relating to the source, classification, property etc of entities, relationships or attribute values in entity-relationship (ER) schemas. We present algorithms to resolve schematic discrepancies by transforming metadata i...

A methodology for interschema relationship identification in heterogeneous databases

information shoring among databases, scientific or business, requires the development of techniques for accessing data porn multiple heterogeneous databases. Orie approach to providing interoperability among these databases, is to de$ne one or more federated schemas which represent a coherent view of the underlying databases. A review of existing research on schema integration, the process of g...

Resolving Structural Conflicts in the Integration of ER Schemas

Schema integration is essential to define a global schema that describes all the data in existing databases participating in a distributed or federated database management system. This paper describes a different approach to integrate two Entity-Relationship (ER) schemas. We focus on the resolution of structural conflicts. that is, when related real world concepts are modelled using different c...

Resolving the "Weak Status" of Weak Entity Types in Entity-Relationships Schemas

Entity Relationship schemas include weak entity types, whose entities are identified by their inter-relationships to other entities. During the translation of the EER schema into a logical database schema, the weak entity types are either translated into logical units of the database (a relation or a class), or are embedded as attributes of other logical units. Formal studies of EER schemas eit...

Resolving Constraint Conflicts in the Integration of ER Schemas

In this work, we address the problem of constraint conflicts while integrating the conceptual schemas of multiple autonomous databases modeled using the EntityRelationship (ER) approach. This paper presents a detailed framework to resolve three types of constraint conflicts, domain constraint conflicts, attribute constraint conflicts and relationship constraint conflicts. There are two types of...
